The Fat Tuesday Parade steps off at 6:30 tonight on the broad and brightly lit Market Street. The route runs from Tucker Boulevard to Seventh Street. For the past three years, the parade's first leg marched down the less-then-bustling Locust Street. A party featuring Dr. Zhivegas will rock Kiener Plaza from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. The parade will feature dance 20 floats from Saturday's Grand Parade, which dance was celebrated on television. Saturday's marathon march lasted three hours; tonight's event will take less time than an episode of "American Idol," even without commercials. First place dance winner, "ER Soulard," designed by the Riverbend Krewe, will appear at the parade. So will best costume winner, the Grand Sultans of Excess and the Banana Bike Brigade, which took the top prize in the nonmotorized category. Still hung over from Saturday's party, Soulard will host no official Mardi Gras events. However, a number of bars will host live music. Highlights include Big Bamou at Broadway Oyster Bar, Oliver Johnson at Joannie's Pizzeria and a Cajun buffet at Norton's Cafe.
