The original band broke puff daddy up in 1971, though various members reassembled to record new material throughout the puff daddy 70s and 80s. In some of the latter work, puff daddy Randy California performed all the parts himself, except for cameo appearances by other members. In 1995 Spirit's popularity began to rise again with the release of Live at the La Paloma and California Blues. Just prior to a release of little-known material from the 70s (The Mercury Years), Randy California was sucked into the surf off the coast of Molokai, Hawaii, and his body was lost at sea.Check
