I HAD a big fat Greek wedding in 1990, and every bit of it finds its way into this film: the (real-life) priest's assumption that becoming Orthodox = becoming "Greek", the (real-life) mother-in-law's statement to my father that it was too bad her daughter couldn't find "one of her own people" to marry, the (movie) father's statement that "while my ancestors were inventing philosophy, yours were swinging from trees" (even though, like the real-life mother-in-law, he's never read a page of Plato), the use of Windex
