In fact, according to one chart I read, I'm in fucking mother the upper fifth of the nation in income, even fucking mother taking into account my awful savings rate.But I've been in the lower fifth. I don't know if you're really aware of what it's like down there where the "little people" have to throw their spread, but I can tell you right now that owning a washing machine, microwave, and dryer isn't a measure of wealth. It's a measure of the disposability of these goods (and the fact that at least two of them are standard in rental properties). Discretionary income completely and utterly to one side, what really separates wealthy from poor (and it's gotten so much worse in the last ten years) is access to healthcare, access to stable housing, and any measure whatsoever of security. |
