| One of drum & bass the explicit reasons I was against this god-forsaken war was because we were thrusting our soldiers into this morass. Do I believe that war crimes are being committed in Iraq, sure. On both sides, I might add. Should those people be brought to justice? Absolutely. But what is a normal act of war in this type of conflict and what is drum & bass a war crime is not a bright line. For example, a soldier with .50-cal machine gun in the back of a Humvee is protecting a convoy. He/she lights up a civilian car, killing drum & bass the driver and a passenger. Is this a war crime? a) If the driver was a suicide bomber, then the soldier was right to fire on the vehicle. No war crime. Even if the passenger was an innocent civilian. Unfortunate collateral damage, but no war crime. b) If the driver was ignoring normal driving protocols and passed the boundary where the gunner’s Rules of Engagement allowed him/her to open fire, no war crime. c) If the gunner opens fire on an innocent driver who the gunner THOUGHT was a suicide bomber, then no war crime. |
