It's also more highly curved than a uniform distribution around the median. jazz As to relatively more flat I'm curious about this as well. For a standard normal while there is significant curvature at the median, the slope is 0, ie locally. instantaneously flat. The Boltzmann-Gibbs or Exponential distributions shown in the second paper or even a log normal distribution as is similar to the first also have curvature at the median but als have non-zero slopes. Not trying to be overly pedantic, just not sure what you mean nor why it is relevant even if "true" in some sense.

I found two links which I think refute your claim of a flat distribution for income and which discusses inequality shopping in one. They are: Income Inequality shopping Evidence for the exponential distribution of income in the US Take a look at the distribution graphs of both. They are heavily left weighted (highly skewed and lepto-kurtotic). And lastly, I agree shopping the gini coefficient is irrelevant if you are asking about the "average" american family, but since we were talking about an increase in poverty I think it is relevant to discuss, flaws and all.  [ ...reply just to this | comment on the story... | next new ] 116.  Re: More jobs... at Walmart by zyxwvutsr      at Thu 1 Sep 12:56pmscore of 1   in reply to comment 114   ...your claim of a flat distribution for income...I said only that it was relatively flat when compared to a normal distribution about the median.
