Two things to consider: blogging Since real median income and employment rate was unchanged from 2003 to 2004, the typical compensation of jobs gained compares with the typical compensation from jobs lost. In other words, for every new minimum wage blogging job created there were many more high-paying jobs created. Of the 2.2 million new jobs, most of the gain (roughly 80%) had no effect on the unemployment rate. Due to increases in population, the US economy has to add about 150,000 every month for there to be flat growth in the employment rate. |

Sure there may be 2.2 million new jobs gained but that might reflect 10 million well paying postings jobs lost and 12.2 million not so well paying jobs gained, though I'm pulling numbers out of my arse so don't attack me on the specifics. More jobs though, that are $5/hr jobs at Walmart or McDonalds, isn't likely to elevate someone out of poverty, so while one might expect those statistics to be inversely related (more jobs -> less poverty) it is really quite dependant on the quality of the jobs created. |
