Anyway, I took what you were saying to have the effect of trying to diminish the significance of the increase in the poverty rate, as if to say that it was narrow and therefore did not reflect the true state of the country. Nonetheless, it did increase, and at a very significant time as well that indicates it is part of a long term trend. The difference suggests a considerable structural change in the US economy, and the fact that there is a concurrent change to the geographic distribution photography of poverty could well be significant. There are some things that the states on the list have photography in common such as the fact that most are rust-belt states. There are other things that they do not have in common — roughly half the states on the list are below the national average unemployment rate, and half are above. The topic certainly merits further study and further discussion.
