josette cathalan, fat boy, reading, plume, fat sex, livejournal, fat pussy, festival, austin, exhibition, hudson street press, liza palmer, | This book was so thought provoking to me. At times in my life, I have been one of the "beautiful, popular" girls; and at times in my life, albert goldberg I have been overweight. Most of the time, I have been somewhere in-between. "Conversations with the Fat Girl" has NEEDED to be written for a long time. Our society treats overweight individuals (women especially) as albert goldberg the lepers of our culture. Overweight women are discriminated against albert goldberg tremendously with respect to jobs, relationships, and friends...unless they have great confidence, which is hard to obtain given the stigma that our society places on the obese. And yet, I have found that "beautiful people" are discriminated against as well. |

I loved this story about Maggie, an overweight 27 year old who works in a coffee shop not living her dream life. I found myself rooting for her the whole way livejournal through the book. She seems so unhappy because of her weight and I was hoping she'd realize that an overweight woman can be beautiful. I loved the ending too. It was perfect. Was this review helpful to you? A Stevenson (Tucson) - See all my reviews In so many ways I loved "Conversations with the Fat Girl." Liza Palmer is truly a gifted new writer and I certainly plan to read anything she writes. Palmer's style of writing is similar to the wildly popular MaryJanice Davidson's in that Liza Palmer's characters are irreverent, spunky, and just terrifically funny. |
