Christian - See all my reviews Maggie is wonderful - and I have to believe that every chubby girl fiction general out there has the same fiction general sort of internal dialogue with herself, fiction general and I think most overweight girls, have had a skinny friend ( whether or not said friend was fat is a different matter - mine was.) who builds herself by making her chubby friend feel bad. I disagree with the reviews that say that Maggie's last act with Olivia was vindictive -- and that she should have taken the high road... |

| Olivia greatly disappointed Maggie and certainly wasn't the friend that she should have been. But even through all her insecurity and self-absorption (and festival what bride isn't?), festival Olivia still cared greatly for Maggie. Olivia had moved to festival another stage in her life and had become a different person and I don't think that Olivia had the confidence she needed to "come out" as a former fat person. Olivia was wrong. But what Maggie did, knowing how much it would hurt her former friend, was truly malicious. I mean, she absolutely ruined what is usually the biggest event in a woman's life. It was unworthy of her. The best thing for Maggie to have done was to confront Olivia about her actions WHILE they were happening OR to refuse to attend the wedding. Maggie should have stuck up for HERSELF instead of expecting Olivia to jump to her defense when Olivia didn't even have the courage to stand up for HERSELF. Maggie tried to second-guess her friend's thoughts and packaged them into a neat category because Olivia was now beautiful. |
