More and more often, the conservative response to liberal charges of screw-ups has been, "we won the election, so we have babes the right to do what we want"; you don't have to be a political wizard to see that losing elections will seriously undercut this position. If tax cuts fail to materialize in the 2006 Legislative session, I posit we'll be witnessing the beginning of the end for the Grover Norquist branch of the Republican party. The deficit hawks were there before Grover got big inside the Beltway, babes and they'll be there long babes after he's gone. In the meanwhile, anyone hoping to use these figures for political gain should expect a lot of abuse. The polite response will be that liberals still don't "get" economics, and the impolite response, in books and the blogosphere, will be that Democrats are trying to spark a class war-- as if growing poverty in the wealthiest nation on the planet is somehow positive, and as desirable as a sunny day.
