The sentence should reflect a desire to pre-emptively crush any inkling of desire to go out and seduce a child or even look at a child sexually. An important question to ask is will five extra years of prison really deter the defendant? If we buy into the idea that child pornography is so bad because it will encourage further crimes, then isn't it proper to buy into the idea that our main goal should be little preventive rather than punitive?
